Flexitime is just one of the ways we empower our team to improve their work/life balance.
At Thought Quarter, we know that happy teams do awesome work. That’s why we’re constantly reviewing our company policies that empower our team to improve their work/life balance.
Flexitime is a key element of our flexible working policy designed to support the team. It’s simple; provided contracted hours are met, our team can start early, take an extended lunch, or finish late as and when they need to. It covers ad-hoc changes to help our team balance work and life commitments.
Here’s why it works for us.
Why we offer flexitime
For us, flexitime just makes sense. It allows our team to balance work and life commitments and make the most of their time.
Flexible working is increasingly important and expected for a growing number of industries and companies. For example:
- 89% of British employees say flexible working would improve their productivity (ft.com)
- 73% of workers have increased their job satisfaction thanks to flexible working (zenefits.com)
- 70% of jobseekers would be more attracted to a job if it offered flexible working (powwownow.co.uk)
- 75% of millennials would prefer flexible working more than a pay rise (recruitment-international.co.uk)
We know that incorporating flexitime into our flexible working policy supports us in both attracting and retaining talent.
It also fits perfectly into our core values. The ability to manage our time more effectively empowers us to take responsibility and honour our commitments, both at work and in our personal lives. We collaborate and support each other to do so; it’s in our nature.
Why flexitime is good for business
Flexible working is something we’d been considering for a while. We’ve heard from clients and contacts that it’s something that works for their teams, but we had to be sure it was appropriate for us.
So far it’s working well, and we’re proud of our choice. We held an internal survey and there was an overwhelming response in favour of it – so, we listened to our team.
We know life doesn’t fit naturally around a nine to five schedule. This policy change gives our team the ability to continue achieving in a more flexible way that suits them.
Our performance and work rate will never falter; if anything, we believe a happier team delivers the best results.
Why flexitime works for our team
As expected, flexitime has been embraced by the whole team.
One of our developers, Neil said: “Even though I don’t use it much, I just like having the option.
“It acknowledges that life does not run like clockwork. Some days I might be on a roll and will choose to stay later to finish a feature. Other times I may be tired and decide to leave a little early, rather than stay and work less productively.
“Even if you’re stuck behind a tractor in the morning it’s not as bad, thanks to flexitime as you can make up any shortfall after!”
Other team members have used it for a variety of reasons. Whether it’s starting that weekend that extra bit earlier after working longer in the week or taking a longer lunch break to enjoy Cornwall in the sun.
Tom Parker, Website Administrator, added: “Flexitime has meant that I can have a work/life balance that works better for me.
“I can take my son to nursery in the morning, as well as visit the bank, barbers or doctors during the week without having to use my leave.”
Flexitime is just one of the ways we empower our team to balance their work and life commitments.
